JoSAA & CSAB Online Counselling Process & How to do ?

What is JoSAA?

JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) is the official counselling body for admission into:

IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology)

NITs (National Institutes of Technology)

IIITs (Indian Institutes of Information Technology)

GFTIs (Government Funded Technical Institutes)

It is based on JEE Main and JEE Advanced ranks.

 How JoSAA Counselling Works – Step-by-Step:

1. Registration & Choice Filling

Candidates must register on the JoSAA website.

Select and fill choices of colleges and branches based on preference.

2. Mock Allotment Rounds

Two mock rounds help candidates understand seat allotment trends.

3. Final Choice Locking

After mock rounds, choices must be locked for final submission.

4. Seat Allotment Rounds

Multiple rounds of allotment are conducted.

Candidates get seats based on their rank, category, and choices filled.

5. Seat Acceptance & Reporting

Once allotted, candidates need to accept the seat and pay the seat acceptance fee.

They must report online for document verification.

6. Freezing / Floating / Sliding Options

Freeze: Accept the seat, don’t want further rounds.

Float: Want to upgrade to a better choice in same institute.

Slide: Want upgrade in another round but only in same institute.

7. Final Admission at the Institute

After the final allotment, report physically to the allotted college.

What is CSAB?

CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) conducts special counselling rounds after JoSAA for:

Vacant seats in NIT+ System (NITs, IIITs, GFTIs)

Home State Quota / North East / Union Territories

Supernumerary seats for Kashmiri migrants, PwD, etc.

 CSAB Special Round Process:

1. Fresh Registration on CSAB Portal

New candidates (not allotted or didn’t join in JoSAA) can apply.

2. Choice Filling and Locking

Fill choices of available institutes and branches based on seat matrix.

3. Seat Allotment & Reporting

Pay the fee, upload documents online and confirm the seat.

4. Final Reporting at College

Report to the allotted college with all original documents.
